Air Barrier Products – ABAA Certified

ABAA Tester (aka Adhesion Pull Testers)

Vapor barrier adhesion testing is critical for ensuring proper installation and performance.  Two very common destructive field adhesion tests are ASTM D4541, Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength of Coatings using a Portable Adhesion Pull Tester, and ABAA T002-2019, Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength between an air barrier membrane and a substrate.

For both tests, adhesion discs or pucks, of a known area, are adhered to the coating or membrane with glue or epoxy.  The coating or membrane is then cut around the disc to ensure only the vertical forces beneath it are measured.  A portable tester is used to separate the disc from the substrate and measure the peak force.  Since the results needed are often in pressure, not pounds-force, you will need to divide the peak force reading by the disc’s area to convert it to psi.

We offer all the equipment needed to easily and reliably perform the afore mentioned tests as well as many others.  Both our analog and digital testers retain the peak force until you reset it, our FCC-2.25 core cutter allows you to neatly cut the membrane around the disc, and our ADH-4 reusable adhesion discs allow for easy pounds-force to psi conversion.  Simply divide the gauge’s peak force reading by 4 to convert it to psi.  If you are reading 64 pounds-force on the gauge, you would divide it by four to convert it to 16psi.

Our ABAA Vapor Barrier Testing Products

ABAA Certified Digital Pull Testing Package

Our product includes our ABAA recommended SP1-1KD digital pull-tester, storage case, calibration certificate, and a 10 pack of our ADH-4, 4 square inch adhesion discs.

See our ABA Tester for options and pricing. As well as these related products:

Operation and pounds per square inch conversion are very simple with our 4 square inch adhesion discs.  Follow these steps:

  • simply zero the force gauge
  • turn the handles smoothly and evenly until failure
  • record the captured peak reading in pounds-force
  • and divide it by 4 to convert it to pounds per square inch or psi
